Loreto is  700 miles south of the US border, and 350 miles north of Los Cabos, via Highway 1, a well-maintained high-speed highway of mostly two lanes that linked Loreto to the US by paved road for the first time in 1973, and is complete on southward to Los Cabos, at the tip of the peninsula. The drive to and from Cabo takes about six hours, and the trip southward from the border is one to two days of driving (depending on how leadfooted the driver), through some of the most interesting and varied terrain you could imagine: In the north, agricultural towns and vegetable fields of all kinds, and thousands of acres of wine grapes, flank the road; farther south there are forests of cactus, and an area with miles and miles of boulders the size of buses. If you are driving for the first time, we’ll be happy to share our ideas, insights on where to stay, where to find gasoline, etc. Totally safe, and a great adventure, in our experience.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Loreto driving down the Baja. Going around Loreto without a car be time-consuming and inconvenient, as might be taking taxis and public transportation.
